Malay Dance

Brief Outline

Queensway Secondary School Malay Dance Club was established in 1997 and since its formation, it has won numerous awards and accolades for its outstanding performances in the Singapore Youth Festival. The club aspires to cultivate the passion and strengthen the commitment among the students so that they can be active contributors to the local arts scene. Numerous opportunities are also offered to allow the students to showcase their various dance styles.

Main Activities

Malay Dance training is conducted twice weekly focusing on the techniques and skills in the different genre of Malay Traditional Dance namely Zapin, Inang, Joget, Samrah and others. The dancers will take part in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation once in every 2 years. In addition to the SYF events, the team also takes part in the National Muara Malay Dance Festivals at Esplanade for since 2012. The group is also passionately involved in the QSS Speech Day Concert, National Day, Teachers’ Day, CCA Day, QSS Open House Day and VIA projects. In the pursuit of a holistic education, the team also attends performances by the professional dance groups annually.
