Mathematics Department

The overarching goal of the mathematics curriculum is to ensure that all students will achieve a level of mastery of mathematics that will serve them well in life. Queenswayans who display the interest as well as the ability are provided with ample opportunities to pursue mathematics at the highest possible level.

The Queensway Secondary School mathematics syllabus strives for all students to acquire mathematical concepts and skills for continuous learning in mathematics and to support learning in other subjects. They would also develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills by applying a systematic mathematical approach to problem solving. By the end of the curriculum, students would also be able to connect ideas within mathematics and other subjects through applications of mathematics and build confidence and foster interest in mathematics.

In the Additional Mathematics syllabus, an appreciation of the abstract nature and power of mathematics is fostered. Students in the Normal (Technical) stream can look forward to learning the value of making informed decisions by analysing real life scenarios.

Mathematics Talent Programme
Students with a flair for Mathematics will be able to develop their potential through our Mathematics Talent Programme. We cater to the Mathematical talents ranging from Secondary 1 to Secondary 3. Students are given the opportunity to hone their mathematics skills as well as developing critical thinking skills through the participation in various competitions.
Maths Trail
The Maths Trail aims to popularise mathematics through out-of-school activities. By providing opportunities for doing mathematics out of school, it allows students to spend time to think of Maths and relate Maths to real life scenarios.
Maths Day
The Maths Day aims to provide students to enjoy Maths outside the classroom. Students collaborate in teams to compete against each other on games such as Sudoku, 3D Tic-Tac-Toe, and Frustrators.
